What’s the difference between Nehemiah and SignUpGenius?

SignUpGenius fills sign-up sheets. Nehemiah runs the volunteer program around them: it onboards new people, asks for the paperwork each role needs, schedules recurring shifts and follows up when someone goes quiet.

Fit

When is SignUpGenius the better choice?

When you need a quick sign-up sheet rather than a volunteer program: a one-time event, a potluck, or anything where you collect money on the same page. Nehemiah fits when the same volunteers come back and their roles come with paperwork.

SignUpGenius is the better choice when…

  • You need a quick sign-up sheet for a one-time event.
  • You collect money on the same page as the sign-up.
  • You want to start free and keep things simple.
  • Your volunteers already know it. Its homepage cites “more than 70 million people.”
  • You need text messages today (on paid plans).

Nehemiah is the better choice when…

  • The same volunteers serve every week or every month.
  • Roles come with paperwork: background checks, trainings, licenses or agreements.
  • New volunteers need a welcome, reminders and a first shift, and nobody has time to chase them.
  • You want each volunteer’s hours, paperwork and history in one record.
  • You’d rather describe your program than configure it.

You can also use both: SignUpGenius for a one-off event, Nehemiah for the volunteers who come back. See how Nehemiah works for church serve teams and food bank and pantry shifts.

Switching

Can I move my volunteers from SignUpGenius to Nehemiah?

Yes. Save your volunteer list as a CSV file, import it into Nehemiah, match the columns and merge any duplicates. Then share your Nehemiah sign-up form or QR code, and new sign-ups are welcomed automatically.

  1. Save your list as a CSV

Any spreadsheet works: names, emails, phone numbers and whatever else you track.

  2. Import and match columns

Match your columns to Nehemiah’s fields once, then merge any duplicates it finds.

  3. Set up roles and shifts

Start from a template, or describe your roles, paperwork and schedule to Ask Nehemiah.

  4. Share your sign-up form

Post the link, embed it on your website or print the QR code. New sign-ups are welcomed automatically.

Volunteers don’t need to create an account in Nehemiah. The import is a CSV file and a column match, and we can look at yours together on a walkthrough: talk to us.
